NOT ENOUGH MONEY
by JOANNE LOWE
“Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not?”
Isaiah 55: 1, 2a
King James Version
As Christmas nears and we are shopping for gifts, some of us are sad because we don’t have enough money to buy all the gifts we want to buy for our family and friends. It’s not that they expect us to buy the gifts or even want us to spend the money. It is because we love our family and friends and want to express our love to them. We do have gifts that we can give them that are more precious than anything we could buy with money. We can give them forgiveness, understanding, unconditional love, kindness and compassion and our time.
Jesus tells us to come to His waters of unconditional Love. His Love is free to us. If our family, loved ones and friends are hurting, we can take them to Jesus and let Him comfort and encourage them as only He can with His special tenderness and understanding. The greatest gift we can give anyone is to love them with the love of Jesus. We can take them to Jesus and let Him protect them. Material gifts that we give can be ruined, broken and fade away but the love of Jesus will last for all eternity.
If we would focus our time and talents this Christmas on loving our family, loved ones and friends as Jesus has told us to love them, we would have a Christmas filled with peace, happiness, laughter and a joy in our hearts that we have never known. Most important of all, we would make Jesus happy on His birthday. What are you giving Jesus for a birthday present?
