A LONG GOODBYE
by JOANNE LOWE
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
John 3:16, 17
King James Version
A mother watched as her son packed the rest of his things to take on his trip. He was leaving home to go into the service of his country. She walked out to the road with him waving to him as he left. She stood there waving even after her son had been out of sight for a long time. She wept tears that only a mother can understand.
I think God watched Jesus with a broken heart as He left on His mission. I believe He watched with tears flowing down His face for a very long time. He knew that His Son was going to be ridiculed, tormented, abused, tortured, spat upon, cursed, criticized and rejected and His heart was very heavy.
Love, unconditional love, is all that Jesus asks of us. Yet there are times when we don’t love like He has commanded us to love. I have been guilty so many times of focusing on myself and allowing myself to become bitter and angry. Only Jesus could have melted my hardened heart. He is faithful and He will take our hand and lead us through every trial and heartache that we encounter.
One day we will die and our loved ones will say their final good bye to us. Don’t break the heart of your family by choosing hell instead of Heaven. If you have never invited Jesus into your heart to be your personal Saviour, please don’t wait any longer. Your family loves you and wants to meet you in Heaven.
