I would like to look at how the way is narrow for those who choose to follow the Lord! My verse that I would like to look at is Deuteronomy 5:32. "So be careful to do what the Lord has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left." When we look at our lives, & the God we serve, there really IS only one way to go. Jesus sad to us the "I AM THE WAY....." He also talks about the way to eternal life is a narrow road, as well as the road that is wide will lead to destruction! With our Lord there IS only one way-HIS WAY! All through the first 5 books of the OT, we keep seeing the phrases like "I am the the Lord your God. Beside me there is no other." It talks about God being a jealous God. We see a God who demands that we follow him & Him alone! Does this seem to be a very demanding God, my brothers & sisters? Do we sometimes see Him as being an unfair & uncaring God? Yes, God DOES have a right to be what we would perceive as demanding. Yes, God IS a jealous God, as we perceive it. Yes, God DOES seem to us to be a narrow-minded God, as we perceive it. But we must remember one simple fact here-everything that has ever existed ONLY exists because of God! Genesis 1:1-"iN THE BEGINNING, GOD......" We wouldn't even BE here, if it wasn't for God! By what right, do we have to complain that we feel that HE is too demanding, or that He is narrow-minded? There is a verse in Scripture, (& shame on me for not having my concordance with me, so I can't give you the reference!), that says the God's way's are not our ways! God is as far above us as we are above the amoeba! Can we ever totally understand God, & more importantly-do we have the right to judge God? No, my brothers & sisters: we don't have the right to question, or judge God! When we are plagued by a sin that just won't go away, no matter how hard we pray, when we are physically sick, & no matter how hard we have prayed, we never seem to be getting better, we DO NOT have the right to judge God! All throughout the OT, we see time & time again, what happened to Israel when they questioned God! This God of ancient Israel, is the same God that we serve today! God never changes! Yet, despite all that happens to us, despite all that we go through, God is still God! There IS only one way that we can go, if we truly claim to be His followers! "DO NOT TURN ASIDE TO THE RIGHT, OR THE LEFT." God's way for all of us is a straight way. I remember one truth in the world today-"THE DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO POINTS IS A STRAIGHT LINE!" Our straight line goes right to the cross! The cross. Two straight lines-the horizontal extending out to encompass the entire world, & the vertical, extending from earth to heaven. The cross. A symbol that God has given to each of us to remind us that the ONLY way to be truly content, is to look to the cross-not to look or turn to the right or left, but to look to the straight path-the straight direction that shows us the ONLY path by which we must be saved! God commands us, even as He commanded the ancient Jews, to follow the straight path that he has set before us-the path to the cross that our beloved Savior died on, so that we WOULD know the way, for HE IS THE WAY! I would like to look at Deuteronomy 9:23-24: "And when the Lord sent you out from Kadesh Barnea, He said: "Go & take possession of the land of the land that I have given you." But you rebelled against the command of of the Lord you God. (24) You did not trust or obey Him. You have been rebellious against the Lord ever since I have known you." These two verses speak two different things to me! First: Look at verse 23. I see the Lord speaking to each one of us here, in regard to witnessing. ".......take possession of the land that I have given you." Now, the Lord hasn't told us to take possession of any land, but I see in this verse something that DOES apply to us, as Believers. Look at Acts 1:8. As God told the ancient Jews to do something, so too has He told all those who would follow Him to do something as well-be witnesses for Him! The Jews were told to go into the lands, which would lead to bloodshed & war. But Jesus has taught each one of us who claim His name, to also go out into the world, but to do it with love-HIS LOVE! The people that God told the ancient Jews to destroy were wicked people! Now here, we really see something! The world is just as wicked as those people that the Jews conquered by the power of God! But we posses a much greater weapon than the Jews ever imagined, & still don't even acknowledge today! The truth that JESUS LOVES THESE WICKED PEOPLE! The are every bit as deserving of God's punishment as the people mentioned in the OT! "For the wages of sin is death........" (Romans 6:23) The ancient people in the OT never HAD the option of repentance & forgiveness! But what can we, as Believers, offer to the wicked people of our time? "...........but the gift of God is is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord." This is something that the people of the OT never had! But the people of the NT DO have-the choice to choose life! And how do they find out about this choice, my brothers & sisters? By our witness! By our witness! Yes the people today are just as wicked as those of the OT & even more than that, they ARE just as deserving of death, like the people of the OT! But they have a choice whether to live or die-and they find out this truth, from PEOPLE JUST LIKE US! PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN SAVED BY THE CLEANSING BLOOD OF JESUS! Now lets look at verse 24. "You did not trust or obey Him. You have been rebellious against the Lord ever since I have known you." Just as Moses said that Israel had been rebellious ever since Moses had known them-so this is also true of all of us as well! God could very easily say this about about Adam & Eve! Virtually from the time He created them, they too, were rebellious! Though we don't know how long a time passed from the time that Adam & Eve were created-does that really matter to the Lord? I can't think of the reference, but in the epistles, we read that ""a day with the Lord is as a thousand years, & a thousand years is like a day." Ever since the creation of man, we too have been rebellious as well! Just as the Jews were punished by God for not obeying His commands, so to are we! God allows us to backslide. He allows us to feel terrible when we sin. He may allow circumstances, (although not always!), to happen to us, in order to make us see that we "screwed-up"! But whatever the case, we too, are convicted & disciplined by God! To tie this into verse 23: How many times has God told us to witness to someone, & we didn't? How many time has God told us to do ANYTHING, & we didn't? We have been rebellious ever since God knew us as well! We really are no different that the ancient Jews! And we DO deserve God's wrath, just as the ancient Jews did! But it is because we HAVE been changed & washed clean by the blood of our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, that we CAN be restored back to fellowship with Him, even as the ancient Jews were! And how was, (& IS), this accomplished? By repentance, my beloved brothers & sisters. By repentance. Bill

I would like to look at Deuteronomy 10:14 today: "To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth & everything in it." This is sometimes a very hard verse to take to heart, but we cannot deny it's truth. God created everything, so by what right do we have to say that anything is really ours? Do we really HAVE the right to claim that anything is really ours, when the heavens themselves belong to the Lord? It is very hard for many of us who so desperately want to follow the teachings of our Lord. We so desperately want to do what we know in our hearts, by the power of the Holy Spirit, is right, yet when we are in financial difficulties, emotional difficulties, physical difficulties, of any other kinds of difficulties, it is so very difficult to really trust our Savior. Yet it IS the Holy Spirit who drives us, who reveals to us, God's children, the truth about who He really is, & what it is that we really owe God! When we are in financial, spiritual, emotional, or relationship crisis, or for that matter, ANY kind of crisis-the Holy Spirit gives us the strength to hold on to the only fact that we, as believers really DO need to know-that God loved us so much, that He gave us a gift that we could NEVER even begin to repay-that of the forgiveness of sins & eternal life, through His Son, Christ Jesus! It is this hope that gives us Believers the strength to carry on, even through the most difficult & trying times in our lives. "To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth & everything in it." Everything is the Lords! Everything! Bill

I would like to look at the fact that God is indeed GOD! My verse is from Deuteronomy 4:35. "You were shown these things so that you might know that the Lord is God; beside Him, there is no other." YOU WERE SHOWN THESE THINGS What have we, as Believers been shown? Forgiveness of sins-Acts 26:18. Adoption into God family-Romans 8:15. Peace-Philippians 4:7. Love-John 3:16. Freedom from fear-2 Timothy 1:7. A new life-2 Corinthians 5:17. And most important of all-the eternal presence of the Creator of the universe-Romans 8:38-39. SO THAT YOU MAY KNOW So that you may know. What do we know? That our sins are forgiven-John 3:16 And the greatest gift of all? "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life. {I John 5:13} THAT THE LORD IS GOD What other religion in the entire world can say that their god has ever made a claim like this? What other religion in the world has a record of all that their god has ever done? What religion has as caring, as loving, as forgiving a god as our GOD? Look at all the times that people proclaimed God's power: Exodus15:2-3,6; 1 Kings 18:39, & look at the psalms-where the psalmist acknowledges over & over again about the qualities of God! The Lord is INDEED GOD! BESIDE HIM, THERE IS NO OTHER What others religions god can even begin to equal our God? Deuteronomy 5:6. This verse doesn't just apply to the Jews, my beloved brothers & sisters-BUT TO ALL OF US WHO KNOW JESUS AS OUR Lord & Savior! We have been freed from the slavery to sin! What other religions god, can make that claim? Bill

Is this any way for Christians to act? "Moviegoers at Stadium 16 Theater in Evansville attending a showing of “Passion of the Christ” got more than they bargained for Saturday night. They were greeted in the lobby of the theater by a man wearing a ‘red devil’ costume. Tyler Wendell, a 19 year old freshman at the University of Southern Indiana, caused quite a ruckus with his get-up. The audience, many who were part of church groups, was visibly upset by the antics of Wendell. ”I always like to push the limits,” Wendell said. Many were upset that Wendell chose to wear a devil costume to a religious movie. Many patrons jeered Wendell as he stood in line for concessions. Once inside the movie, Christians began pelting Wendell with Gummy Bears, Ju-Ju Bees, and popcorn. Management got involved after a 75-year-old woman, Hazel Meyer, poured a 64-ounce Coca-Cola on Wendell. Brian Fitzgerald, General Manager of Country Cinemas, asked Wendell to leave because he was such a disruptive presence. “Our corporate policy is to eject anyone that interferes with the movie experience of fellow patrons,” Fitzgerald said. Scott Brown, a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, was outraged. "This is no place for this type of behavior,” Brown remarked, “This was already a sensitive subject, and then to mock it by dressing up as Satan is despicable.”<br> When asked what he hoped to accomplish by his actions, Wendell said he likes doing things to get a reaction. He was also inspired by a biography he read about the Marquis de Sade. De Sade was an 18th century writer who caused scandals with his libertine behavior in pre-revolutionary France. De Sade was once arrested for desecrating the Holy Eucharist to see if God really existed. Wendell said his stunt was along the same lines. Wendell, an atheist, said, “If God really existed, He would have struck me down for dressing as the devil.” He also wanted to prove “that Christians aren’t as forgiving as they portray”. Wendell says his actions were also partially due to a genuine dislike of Mel Gibson. Fitzgerald replied that Wendell was “a misguided and deranged person.” Fitzgerald also said measures are being taken to ensure this type of disruption does not occur again. “From now on, people dressed offensively will not be allowed to enter the theatre.” Country Cinemas' management is in the process of creating new guidelines for preventing people dressed as “evil beings” from gaining entrance to the theatre. As of this writing, Evansville police were investigating the incident." www.hoosiergazette.comI would like to talk about what TRUE Christian love is. My verse is from Luke 6:27- "But I tell you who hear me; Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you you." I look at this situation, & I find that these people in this article who reacted so badly to this man, were most definitely NOT following the leading of the Holy Spirit in this matter! This whole section of Luke 6:27-45, shows that our actions often speak louder than words. Look at some of the verses here: verse 27-Love Your enemies (There is no indication that there are to be any words spoken here-sometimes, just having a loving attitude toward them is enough! Also look at what else this verse says: Do Good. (Again-actions rather than words!) verse 29-Turn Your cheek-(Again: actions!) Giving your coat-(Again actions!) I'm sure that we have all heard the phrase: "actions speak louder than words." Well: here they certainly did! Did this incident cast a bad light on Christianity? You bet it did! When one is walking in the power of the Holy Spirit, however: this would never have happened! I think about how some of us would have reacted towards this man? We couldn't hate him-the love of Christ dwells too deeply in us, (when we are letting the Holy Spirit lead us! ). I think, I probably would have been sickened by this guy, but I could never have done anything to him! Look at Peter & John & prison. Did they retaliate against the authorities? No Did Stephen retaliate against the authorities before he was stoned? No. Did Paul retaliate against his jailers? No. My brothers & sisters-we, as Believers, can not, no-MUST NOT act in this manner! We are only hurting our own witness! Bill

I would like to talk about what some would consider to be a rather unpleasant topic-Blood. What is confusing to many unbelievers about the Christian belief, is why we talk so much about the Blood of Jesus. Certainly, with all the death all over the world, especially with the killing in the Middle East-blood is something that we can't help but think about, whether we like it or not! But let's take a look at the significance of blood in the Scriptures to see why it IS so important. Hebrews 9:22 is the basis that we will use for this for this study: "In fact, the law requires that nearly everything to be cleansed with blood, & without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins." We have to go back all the way back to the book of Genesis to see the start of why the shedding of blood is so important. Look at Genesis3:21. God made garments of skin for Adam & Eve. They may have broken His law, but He STILL LOVED THEM! Where do we think God got the skin from? Did he just magically "whip" them up out of thin air. No-God doesn't work that way! He is not some magician, with cheap parlor tricks! No-HE IS GOD! I see no evidence to the contrary, to even suggest, that He did that. I believe that He killed one or more of the animals in the Garden of Eden, in order to provide clothing for Adam & Eve. WHY this brutality? Because God still loved them! Now some would say that this would be cruel & inhumane, but remember-because of Adam & Eve's sin, the world had ALREADY been made cruel & inhumane! That which was perfect to begin with, NO LONGER WAS! I have been trying to catch up in the Bible reading program from my church, & have been reading through the book of Leviticus. All throughout that book, we see how the sacrifice of animals was necessary for the forgiveness of sins. The phrase "....the life of the creature is in the blood....", is repeated over & over again. Why? Because it is true! Our blood IS what keeps us alive! We couldn't live without it! Every time an animal was sacrificed, it showed the sacrifice of one animal for the "forgiveness" of another animal, (MAN!). We see this very same example with Christ! Jesus Himself showed us the importance of blood, at the Last Supper, when He had said: "This is My Blood , which is offered for you". Look at the blood that had to have come out of His forehead when the crown of thorns was placed on it! Look at the blood that came from having nails hammered, ("oh, this is very painful!"), through His hands & feet! Look at the blood that flowed out of His side, when the Roman officer thrust the spear into His side. It was this very shedding of blood that truly DID make Jesus the ultimate sacrifice for all of us! Jesus WAS the sacrificial lamb for all the world! Look at John the Baptist, when he first saw Jesus! What did he say? "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world." All throughout the OT, right up to the sacrifice of our Lord & Savior, blood had to be shed, in order to have sins forgiven. A death WAS required! But when Jesus said: "It is finished!", the way was open for all, who CHOSE to receive that gift of forgiveness & cleansing. The final sacrifice had been offered! No more sacrifices for the forgiveness of sin were ever needed! Since that event, we honor the sacrifice of our Savior, every time that we talk about how His Blood DOES cleanse us from all sin! Look at Romans 3:25, Ephesians 1:7, Colossians 1:14, Hebrews 9:14, & so on & so on! Blood provided the forgiveness for sin during the OT, & in the same way, the blood that Jesus shed for each one of US, redeems & cleanses US!! Why do we talk about the Blood of Jesus? Why do I mention it in my signature line? Why do we emphasize something so unpleasant whenever we talk about Jesus to someone? Because there are two truths in it! 1. The HIS BLOOD DOES FORGIVE & CLEANSE US FROM ALL SIN! 2. HE WAS THE PERFECT SACRIFICE FOR EACH ONE OF US! NO MORE SACRIFICES WOULD EVER BE NEEDED! But MOST importantly-...........................it is about forgiveness, my beloved brothers & sisters. It is about forgiveness. Bill

I knew that the Lord wanted me to talk about witnessing today, but it appears that I had to go to church first, so that I could get a better background on what He REALLY wants me to say! I would like to take a look at Isaiah 42:6-9: "I, the Lord, who has called you in righteousness, I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you & make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open the eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison, and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness. I am the Lord: that is MY NAME! I will not give My glory to another, My praise to idols. See the former things have taken place, & the new things that I declare; before they spring into being, I will announce them to you." Before we can be good witnesses, we have to 100% realize the one who called us to BE witnesses-GOD! Look at these verses closely: Who called us into righteousness through the sacrifice of His Son-THE FATHER! Who will hold our hand when we witness-the Father! Who will make us a covenant to the people-The Father! And then, look at what he says next! "I AM THE LORD!" Here, we see God telling us who is the real power behind our witnessing-HE IS! "THAT IS MY NAME!" Again-defining who truly gives us the ability to witness-HE DOES! Look at how God declares His Name to be above all else! Remember when Moses asked God who shall I say sent me? What was God's answer-I AM! Also note that He is a jealous God-'I will not give My glory to another, or My praise to idols! All throughout Scripture, we see how God refers to Himself as a jealous God: Exodus 20:5, Exodus 34:14, Deuteronomy 5:9, Deuteronomy 6:15 . We may think that this is being somewhat pompus, but remember-THERE IS NO OTHER GOD THAN OUR GOD! Our God is God above all gods! According to our pitiful human standards-He has every right to make these kind of statements! But then: look at what God says-"See, the former things have taken place...", meaning that we can't change the past. "& the new things I declare...." (why do I hear II Corinthians 5:17, here ), " before they spring into being, I announce them to you." This is the kind of God we serve, my brothers & sisters! PRAISE GOD! The God above all gods! A God who speaks as powerfully to us today, as He did to the prophets of old! The truth of Hebrews 13:6 is never truer for those of us who have been Born Again, because we have the great "I AM" on our side! We have the great "I AM" holding our hand! We have been made righteous by the great "I AM!" The great "I AM" has revealed to us things that the world doesn't even know will happen yet, but "I AM" has revealed these things to us who are His Children! What do we possibly have to fear? "SO WE CAN SAY WITH CONFIDENCE, 'THE LORD IS MY HELPER; I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT CAN MAN DO TO ME?'" Bill

I would like to talk about a very special means of worship-that of singing. Music has been such a major part of my life for almost half my life! I have belonged to numerous church choirs, choral groups, madrigal groups-everything from a barbershopper to a handbell ringer! Yet music has never played a bigger part in my life than since I came back to to the Lord last year! Look at all the references to singing to to the Lord that are in Scripture: 1. Exodus 15:1-21-After Pharaoh's army was destroyed in the Red sea! 2. Psalm 9:2-singing praises to God's name! 3. Psalm 21:13-singing praises to God's power! 4. Psalm 47:6-singing praises to God-our King! 5. Psalm 81:1-singing to God for being our strength! 6. Psalm 96:1-all of Creation singing to God! 7. Psalm 145:7-singing of God's righteousness! 8. I Corinthians 14:15-singing praises to God for understanding. The Christian radio station here in Madison-(www.wnwc.org)-has really been a major encouragement to me, since I came back to the Lord! I used to have an 80 mile round trip every weekday at one of my jobs, & having Christian music to listen to on those long drives was a blessing & a half! How many times have I found myself crying, because the song had such a powerful impact on some aspect on my life! That is the purpose of music-to bring us closer to our Lord! Even now, I am listening to Christian music as I type this post! Music expresses our love for God is a way that simple words can never do! Whether of not we listen to the great old hymns, or contemporary artists, music is truly a universal language. It binds us together in a common spirit of unity! At my church, music is a major part of worship! Both our pastor & his wife are former professional musicians themselves! When our pastor's wife, Julie, leads us in praise & worship, there is absolutely no question, that the Holy Spirit is definitely moving among the congregation! There is all sorts of spontaneous singing going on, because the music frees us up to total joy & surrender in the Lord! There was a time when, during a choir rehearsal, spontaneous singing of praise & worship, just broke out! This is what true worship is all about-not just the same boring, ritualized same thing every week, but SPONTANEOUS, JOYFUL PRAISE OF OUR WONDERFUL LORD & SAVIOR-JESUS CHRIST! God wants us to be joyful, & to express our love for Him with such joyfulness. Listen to the words of the psalmist in last psalm-Psalm 150: "Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His mighty heavens. Praise Him for His acts of power, praise Him for His surpassing greatness. Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise Him with the harp & lyre. Praise him with the tambourine & dancing, (has anyone ever experienced this?!), praise Him with the strings & flute. Praise Him with the clash of cymbals, praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!" Bill

I would like to look at two verses in Scripture that God really revealed to me. They are Psalm 8:3-4a: "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon & the stars, which You have set in place, what is man, that You are mindful of him?" Look at the world today. Sure, it has lots of problems: war, poverty, hunger, & all the rest. But look at how the psalmist sees the world! He sees not the petty problems of the world, but the much bigger picture of the true majesty of God! When he sees God's true Glory, he asks the question that we all find ourselves asking, when we contemplate God's wonderful creation-"Why do You even care about someone like me?" All throughout Scripture, man has realized that he is nothing in comparison to how powerful God is. Look at how the nation of Israel rejoiced in God's power after God destroyed Pharaoh's army in the Red Sea! "Who among the gods is like You, O Lord? Who is like You-majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?" {Exodus 15:11) Here we see the omnipotent God being worshipped for His power. But look at how the prophet Isaiah realized his position in relationship to the very same, omnipotent God! "Woe to me", I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, & I live among a people of unclean lips, & my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty." (Isaiah 6:5) Two very different picture of peoples reactions to God. What is man, that God should even care about us, when he could wipe out an entire army, when He could create a pillar of Fire that would lead the Israelites on their Journey to the Promised Land? Yet.........................God IS mindful of us, we pitiful little creatures that He created, we rebellious people who have turned against Him time, & time, & time again. Who have went off & done our own thing, instead of putting our trust in the only One who should be leading every aspect of our lives! And yet-God IS mindful of us. God DOES love us! Look at Jesus weeping over the city of Jerusalem. Look at Him weeping for not Lazarus, when He was at his tomb, but weeping for Israel instead, weeping for His chosen people, who He knew would once again turn against Him, & deliver Him into the hands of the Romans to be crucified. This is God in the flesh, a very real, very Human God, showing His heart for the great love that He has for each one of us. In all the world, has there EVER been a god in any other religion that has shown such a great love for his people, like OUR GOD HAS? He weeps for us, even today, my brothers & sisters. He weeps for us when we do something that was deliberately against His will. He weeps for us when we are hungry. He weeps for us who are in financial troubles. He weeps for us who are lonely. He KNOWS how we feel, because He, the creator of everything, (Colossians 1:16), has been human Himself. He HAS experienced everything that we have & are experiencing right now! He KNOWS what we are going through right now, because HE LOVES US! And how great is His love for us? "But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." {Romans 5:8} While we were yet sinners-Yes, my dear brothers & sisters, we are sinners. But we are sinners that have been saved by a loving God who redeemed us by grace. {Eph 2:8} A loving God who sent His only Son, Christ Jesus to die for us, that we might enjoy the very same fellowship that Adam & Eve enjoyed with Him in the Garden of Eden. A loving Savior who said that He would never leave or forsake us. Are you hurting today, my beloved brother or sister? I know that I am. Not because I have fallen away from Him, but because I can not see what the future holds for me. Like some of us, I am in extreme financial crisis right now. But if there is one thing that I DO KNOW-it is that "...I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him for that day." {II Timothy 1:12} I know whom I have believed. I believe that my Lord & Savior WILL provide for me, because-through the forgiveness that He has granted me by the power of the Blood that He shed for me on that cross-I KNOW that somehow He Will provide for me! All of us who have entrusted our lives to Jesus Christ, who have accepted Him into our hearts as our Lord & Savior, who are Born Again-GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF US! The truth of Psalm 37:25 holds true for all of us Believers today, just as it did for the psalmist, & we can say with absolute confidence: " ...! ..yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken, or their children begging bread." We are made righteous through Christ Jesus! We can claim that verse, that God WILL PROVIDE FOR US! It is all right to be concerned about our future. Jesus DOES understand. The one most important thing that ALL OF US, (I definitely include myself here!), is that GOD IS HERE FOR US, AT ALL TIMES! What is man that God is mindful of us? We are His children, & a loving Father is ALWAYS mindful of His children. Bill
