Title: Turn Your Cheek
Man 1: I'll tell you this right now, you'll
never get away with this.
I'll sue you for everything you have...
Woodrow Kroll: We certainly live in a culture
that thrives on litigation.
I'm Woodrow Kroll and it seems as if
everybody is suing everybody else. "Stand
up for your rights," your friends say. Well,
Jesus had a different perspective.
He said, "Whoever slaps you on the right
cheek, turn the other to him
also."
Now, Jesus wasn't encouraging us to stand
around and get beat up all the
time. He was simply saying that retaliation
never settles anything. It's not
His way. We are not to be motivated by anger
or revenge. Our culture says,
"Get even."
Jesus says, "Show some Christlike love, even
when it doesn't seem fair."
Jesus even modeled this behavior so we might
follow in His steps. And how
do we become like Him? We become like Jesus
when we read His Word. Immerse
yourself in His teaching.
The Book of Matthew is a great place to start
because it reveals the life
Jesus led on this earth. Begin in chapter
one--that's the Christmas story--and
work your way to the end of the book. You'll
learn about God's great promises
to you.
