I run a small animal sanctuary in the UK. We care for all types of animals - but especially the ones that other sanctuaries refuse to help. We take in the elderly and the sick ones, animals with behavioral problems, the no-hopers.
Take Lewis for example. He is a long haired collie cross dog aged about 6. He was brought to us 4 years ago as a vet refused to kill this healthy dog. He was very aggressive and would bite anyone who upset him. We felt he needed understanding and love, and although he bit several family members in the early days , he has learned to trust us and loves us to bits. He is still distrustful of strangers and can never be rehomed - but he is a loyal family member and has learned the joy of wagging his tail.
Murphy was another no-hoper. As a 5 month old puppy, this crossbred terrier was due to be killed for aggression. We were told that he had killed a cat and was going to kill the newborn baby. We felt this puppy deserved a chance, and he too has become a wonderful friend.
And then there was Billy... a shaggy black goat with huge horns. Billy was going to be shot by his owner, because he kept jumping walls and eating the neighbour's flowers. no other sanctuary would take him, so we stepped in to save his life. He still jumps walls... he's still troublesome. but thats what goats are like. Here he is free to play goat games and he's a happy lad.
There are many others... from elderly ponies to cats with incontinence problems... pigs, sheep and aggressive chipmunks. All find a safe haven and an understanding friend here at farplace.
