Reflection #1 on 'Whole Again' by Jennifer Knapp
If I give my life if I lay it down
Can you turn this life around
Can God really change the life of anyone who comes to Him? Can He really help a
drug addict? Can He really help a prostitute? Can He really help someone
addicted to pornography? Can He help a child molester? Can He help a liar? Yes,
He can.
The other day my band was ministering at a shelter. There was a woman on the
front row who stole my heart. She hadn't had a bath in weeks. Her gray hair hung
in stringy, greasy clumps. Her clothes were dirty. Her eyes were vacant. She sat
slumped and expressionless. She looked defeated, forgotten and hopeless. I
watched her all night, looking for any response. But there was none.
When we ended the concert, I jumped off the stage and went straight to her. I
bent down and took her hand. When she lifted her face up to me, I was shocked.
She smiled. Her eyes sparkled. Just the act of touching her hand brought her
joy. I was overcome with the power of a simple touch. We spoke briefly; she
didn't want to talk or pray. But as she shuffled off to the clean bed awaiting
her, the glow of that smile stayed on her lips.
God can turn any life around. It takes no more than a touch from the Master to
totally change a person. I have seen it happen time and time again. No one is a
hopeless case. No one is beyond His power. He can make any broken life whole
again.
"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,
according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church
and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen"
(Ephesians 3:20-21, NIV).
God can do more than you think. He can do more than you can even imagine.
Whatever looks hopeless, put it in the hands of God. Let Him have it. His power
is working in you. Trust Him. Do what Jennifer Knapp sings and give Him your
life. All of it. He can make you whole again.
